At approximately 08:21 PM on Sunday, October 2nd, 2022, the Beecher Fire Protection District responded for a possible structure fire in the area of 30624 S. Kedzie Ave. Upon the arrival of the first fire suppression company, a residential home was found with heavy fire conditions throughout the building at 30650 S. Kedzie Ave. At this time, a Full Still and MABAS Box Alarm were transmitted to bring in additional resources. With the neighbors' help, we were able to make contact with the occupant and confirm that everyone was out of the building. Due to the extensive fire conditions, a defensive operation was declared. Initial responding crews deployed several hoselines and used the elevated master stream to extinguish the fire. Crews had water on the fire within three minutes, and the fire was under control at 9:20 PM. The escalation to the MABAS Box Alarm level brought in a total of 8 engine companies, 2 truck/tower ladders, 8 tenders, 2 ambulances, and 8 chief officers. The closest fire hydrant was approximately 3 miles away, which prompted a rural water supply operation to be established and a tender water shuttle to be initiated. The origin and cause of the fire are currently under investigation by the fire investigators of the Beecher Fire Protection District and the MABAS 27/24 Origin and Cause Team. No civilians or firefighters were injured in the fire. Damage estimates are not available at the time of this release.

The Beecher Fire Protection District responded with 1 engine company, 1 truck company, 1 ambulance and 2 chief officers.

Multiple agencies were on the scene and at our fire station to cover any additional calls for service
during that time. These include Crete Fire Department, Crete Township Fire Protection District,
Grant Park Fire Protection District, Cedar Lake Fire Department, University Park Fire Department,
South Chicago Heights Fire Department, Monee Fire Protection District, Sauk Village Fire Department,
Park Forest Fire Department, Steger Fire Department, Steger Estates Fire Department, Matteson
Fire Department, Momence Fire Protection District, Manteno Fire Protection District, Lake Dalecaria Fire Department, St. John Fire Department, Richton Park Fire Department, Frankfort Fire Protection District and Tinley Park EMS.
