By Fire Chief Joe Falaschetti
February 13, 2026

Beecher, IL — At approximately 3:06 p.m. on Friday, February 13, 2026, the Beecher Fire Protection District (BFPD) responded to a reported motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Illinois Route 1 and County Line Road. While units were en route, dispatch advised that one of the vehicles was on fire, and the response was upgraded to an extrication response due to the reported severity of the incident.

Upon arrival, crews encountered a collision involving a semi-truck and two passenger vehicles. One passenger vehicle was heavily damaged and fully involved in fire, with the driver trapped inside. The semi-truck sustained significant damage, while the second passenger vehicle sustained minor damage.

Crews immediately initiated fire suppression efforts on the involved passenger vehicle. The Grant Park Fire Protection District was also on scene and assisted with patient assessment and traffic control.

Four patients were evaluated at the scene. Three individuals refused medical treatment, and one victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

This intersection has been the site of numerous serious and fatal crashes over the years. Today’s loss is another painful reminder that the current conditions at Illinois Route 1 and County Line Road are not acceptable. The Beecher Fire Protection District administration will continue to call upon our Illinois State Legislators, the Illinois Department of Transportation, and all appropriate state agencies to prioritize immediate safety improvements at this location.

Our members will continue to respond when called upon, but prevention must remain the priority. Our residents and all motorists who travel this corridor deserve a safer intersection.
